Why hire a company at all
Hanging lights along a roofline and through the landscape takes time, and it means ladders and tools in cold weather. Aqua-Bright's own guidance is blunt about it: the work can be time-consuming and risky for people who are not familiar with safe, correct installation practices.
A Christmas lighting company takes that work off your list. In Ellicott City, Aqua-Bright's lighting professionals design the display, install it and remove it at the end of the season, so the household's only job is deciding what it should look like.
That still leaves a choice between companies. Five questions separate them.
1. Will they help with the design?
A good company starts with a plan, not a ladder. Aqua-Bright's lighting experts work with homeowners to choose colors and patterns, including the basic choice between delicate white light and bright multicolored "rainbow" lights.
The point of that conversation is to avoid trial and error. Deciding on paper which trees, rooflines and entrances to light is much easier than moving strings around after they are up.
2. How do they install safely?
Ask what equipment the crew brings and how displays are secured. Aqua-Bright's personnel arrive with the required tools and take the necessary safety precautions, and the company describes its displays as well-secured and built from high-quality lighting and materials.
A well-secured display matters after installation too. Winter wind and weather test every clip and connection for weeks.
3. What lights do they use?
The product affects how the display looks in week six as well as on day one. Aqua-Bright uses energy-efficient LED lights and FX Luminaire products, and lists three reasons:
- Durability. LEDs are not easily broken, even mounted outside in the cold.
- Low maintenance. They are designed to last for years without replacement.
- Energy efficiency. They use less energy than traditional bulbs, which matters for a display left on for long winter evenings.
4. What can they decorate?
A company that only does rooflines will leave the yard dark. Aqua-Bright's Ellicott City service covers:
- Roof displays
- Tree and shrub lights
- Outdoor lighting displays
- Wreaths
The same service is available to businesses. Aqua-Bright has built holiday displays for commercial buildings of many sizes, where lights draw attention to entrances and signs during the shopping season.
5. What happens after the holidays?
Ask who takes the lights down and who owns them. Aqua-Bright removes the display at the end of the season. Owners who want lights up all year can arrange regular maintenance inspections instead.
On ownership, Aqua-Bright's holiday lighting page states that once the lights are installed they are yours to keep, so later years cover labor and maintenance rather than a new set of lights.
Before deciding, look at finished work. Aqua-Bright publishes a portfolio of past displays and customer reviews on its site.
