The season is shorter than it looks
Holiday lighting has a genuinely narrow operating window, and nearly every problem homeowners hit traces back to it.
Installation runs from late autumn into early December. Every installer in the region works those same weeks, on properties that all want the same handful of dates. The schedule commits early, and the homeowners who get their preferred date are the ones who booked in autumn rather than after the first cold snap made them think of it.
Aqua-Bright serves the Annapolis area through its outdoor holiday lighting installation services page, alongside coverage across Maryland, DC, and Northern Virginia.
What happens after installation day
The part of the service that gets least attention at booking is the part that runs longest.
- In-season maintenance. A display runs nightly for six weeks through winter weather. Connections fail, sections go dark, wind moves things. Servicing through the season is part of Aqua-Bright's engagement, not a separate callout.
- Post-season removal. Aqua-Bright comes back out to remove the lights once the holidays are over.
- Year-round option. If you would like the lights up year-round and just need service through the year, that is available instead of takedown.
Takedown is the step homeowners most consistently underestimate. It happens in January, in cold and often wet conditions, on a ladder, with no festive motivation attached. It is why DIY displays stay up into February.
The multi-year cost shape
Holiday lighting does not price like a flat annual service, and understanding that changes how quotes compare.
With Aqua-Bright, once the lights are installed they are yours to keep - so the first season carries the display itself, and subsequent years cover labor and maintenance. Year one and year three are structurally different numbers.
The lights are LEDs, white and colored, and energy-efficient, which saves money over the display's operating life given it runs nightly across the season.
When comparing installers, establish whether their model is ownership or rental. It is the single largest driver of what the display costs over five years, and it is rarely stated on a quote unprompted.
Annapolis-specific considerations
Two local factors affect scheduling and design.
Weather exposure. Waterfront and near-water properties get more wind and more salt-laden damp than inland sites. That argues for professional securing rather than clip-and-hope, and it makes in-season maintenance more valuable than it would be a few miles inland.
Housing variety. The area runs from historic-district properties with complex rooflines and period detail to modern waterfront homes where the display is read from the water as well as the road. Both are design problems first. Aqua-Bright's designers work to the property and the homeowner's taste, using roof displays, wrapped trees and bushes, wreaths, and broader landscape displays.

Booking alongside irrigation shutdown
The holiday install window sits directly on top of irrigation winterization season in this region, and Aqua-Bright does both.
For a property with an irrigation system that is a genuine convenience: one contractor, one scheduling conversation, both autumn obligations handled. Winterization runs through maintenance and service plans, with local irrigation coverage at landscape irrigation services in Annapolis.
Both book on the same compressed autumn calendar, which is the practical reason to arrange them together rather than sequentially.
