SKU QPC5. The cheapest way into 4K. It folds flat, connects instantly over USB-A or USB-C, and runs up to 60 fps for real-time video - a higher frame rate than anything else in the portable tier. A built-in microphone records sound with video, and single-press buttons handle autofocus, image flip for webcam mode, and the LED light. Powered entirely over USB-C, so there is no brick to lose.

SKU QPC22. An 8 MP USB plug-and-play camera that doubles as a scanner and a webcam. Low-energy LEDs light the subject in any conditions, a built-in mic captures audio, and the whole unit weighs under two pounds - small enough to live in a laptop bag. Digital zoom, rotate and flip are handled from the connected computer, at 30 fps.

SKU QPC100S. The one that does not need a computer. It plugs straight into any display over HDMI, and the onboard buttons cover zoom, rotate/mirror, freeze, focus and brightness. USB is there too if you want to capture. A 13 MP flip camera on an extendable neck with three pivot points means it can shoot a textbook page or a whole desk-sized object, all at 4K.

SKU QPC55W. Dual-function: 5 GHz Wi-Fi to the computer, or USB when you want the cable. An 8 MP CMOS sensor, 270-degree camera rotation, 16x digital zoom, 720p/1080p video at 30 fps, a built-in microphone, and an A4 shooting area. It captures JPG, BMP, PNG and TIF stills and MP4 video, and runs as a standard UVC/UAC device. Folded it is 13 x 2.5 x 1.75 inches at 1.3 lbs. One caveat worth knowing before you buy for a Chromebook fleet: Chrome OS supports USB mode only - it is not compatible with the Wi-Fi mode. Windows and Mac get full features, with Mac needing the QCamera download for USB mode.

A smart document camera and media center in one: 1080p at 5 MP, 10x optical and 10x digital zoom, HDMI in and out, VGA, RS232, a backlit platform, a Kensington lock point and built-in internal memory so photos and video captured mid-presentation can be replayed later. Text optimization and backlighting are aimed squarely at making book pages readable from the back of a room. It carries an illustrated user guide printed on the unit itself, which is the right call for a multi-user classroom or a public space where nobody gets trained.

The 4K version, and functionally a media hub. 8.3 MP UHD sensor, 4K at up to 30 fps, resolutions from 1280x720 through 3840x2160, 10x optical plus 10x digital zoom, vertical camera rotation to 330 degrees, image rotation in 90-degree steps, and an A4 shooting area. The differentiator over the 3900H2 is twofold: a mini LCD preview screen that lets the presenter frame and zoom before the image goes to the room, and a built-in switcher across HDMI, VGA and RS232 that lets one lectern toggle between new and legacy sources and integrate with room control systems.

Buying alongside a classroom response system
Document cameras and classroom response systems get specified together more often than not, because the teaching move is the same: show the work, then check whether the room followed it.
