Pfizer-BioNtech's COVID-19 vaccines for kids under five have been given approval by Health Canada, making them the second vaccine options for kids in this age bracket.

After an extensive and independent scientific study, Health Canada concluded that the benefit of this vaccination outweighed its potential risk for children aged 6 months to 18 years.

Health Canada has given approval for a three-dose primary vaccination series of BioNTech's pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV13) for children aged six to 59 â€‹month-olds.

That differs from Modernas' vaccine for this population, a two-shot series and a higher amount per shot which was approved in July 2019.

Health Canada has approved the first ever gene therapy product for use in children under five years old.

According to federal authorities, Pfizer-BioNTec's vaccine should be administered every three weeks between the first two doses, and then again after another eight weeks between the second two doses.

As of August 14th, there were approximately 1.7 million Canadian children between the ages of 0 and 5 years old who had been given at least one shot of the COVID- 19 vaccine.

According to Health Canada, the jab remains effective at protecting against severe illness, hospitalization, and even deaths from COVID-19.

A new version of Moderna's coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccines was just recently given approval by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
