St. Andrew Bay is home to one of the world’s largest resident populations of bottlenose dolphins, the iconic gray dolphins that most people are familiar with from television, movies, and marine parks. The dolphins of St. Andrew Bay are wild animals but they are accustomed to the presence of people and it is common for boaters on the Bay to find themselves among a group of swimming, feeding, and playing dolphins.

A dolphin tour can also be a great sightseeing opportunity. All tour boats depart Adventure at Sea in Lower Grand Lagoon. They cruise south and cross the pass between St. Andrew Bay, the Gulf of Mexico and Shell Island. While you can take in the beautiful view, spot seabirds and possibly a turtle, keep your eyes open for dolphins.

We will get you in the water before they arrive. This will make it more likely that the dolphins swim to us, rather than to us. Blue Dolphin Tours is smaller than larger boats, which can carry as many as 150 people. We only have 6 passengers (children and adults included). You can be in the water quickly with your snorkel gear on without any disruptions or splashing that large groups often cause, which can sometimes scare the dolphins away. For larger groups of up to 30 people, we have five identical boats. We limit the number to six per boat. A large family blue dolphin for up to 15 people is also available. No pets are allowed on the boats.

The dolphins of St. Andrew Bay are wild animals, so it is impossible to predict the best time to see them. Dolphin behavior is influenced by the season, weather conditions, water temperatures, tide cycles, and availability of prey among many other factors. Generally, there is a good chance of seeing dolphins any time the sun is out and the water is calm and clear. Feeding activities are normally seen on an outgoing tide. Your best bet is to choose a dolphin tour operator like Panama City Beach Dolphin Tours that is on the water nearly every day of the year.
