Foam Insulation Baffles Cathedral Ceiling
Next, measure the distance between the rafters. The distance should be at least four inches. The bottom of each baffle should start where the ceiling joist meets the roof rafters. Once you've measured the distance, you can then start installing the baffles. Be sure to align and secure the baffles properly. It's also important to secure the connecting points with spray foam to prevent air leaks.
Ridge exhaust vents run the whole length of the roof along its edge, and they aren't visible enough to detract in any way from the roofline. Static vents can stick out but have unique covers that keep out rain, snow, hail and sleet to ensure they continue working well. Some of these static vents have enclosed fans. Powered exhaust fans have electric- or solar-powered fans that turn on when the attic temperature reaches a preset limit.
Bob Vila explains how attics have intake vents beneath the roof's edges that let in cool and hot air, as well as hot exhaust vents at roof peak that let off hot air. The intake vents are either installed in the roof soffit in one continuous perforated piece, or individually spaced out over a few feet. Gable roofs have the vents located near the top of each gable.
